Biography and Artist Statement
My desire to make art started in childhood. Raised in Princeton, NJ, Washington Crossing and Lancaster, PA, I have always thought art an important form of self-expression. Beginning at age 15, I studied oil painting under Dr. Sykes and pastels at weekly Franklin and Marshall College figure drawing classes. I was fortunate to have the wholehearted support of my family, who bought me an art table and supplies.
I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art in Elkins Park, during which time I spent six months studying art in Italy. I have worked in display designing and staging windows for department stores, as well as in alterations. I have worked with fabrics such as creating Renaissance costumes and in the graphic design field. I find the act of painting to be rejuvenating.
Currently residing in Maryland, I continue to develop my practice working under two skylights in my studio as often as possible. Alternating between acrylics, watercolor, oil sticks and gouache, I am a colorist who continually returns to the natural world and my own imagination for inspiration.

“My process begins with a color combination or image through which I paint another place or idea. The act of painting is re-imagining familiar subjects into entirely new spaces and things.”
